Angie Rios
Principal/Owner
Angie brings more than 20 years of experience in public relations, social marketing, media relations and issues management. Her expertise has been tapped by clients such as ChevronTexaco Corporation, Center for Agricultural Business at California State University, Fresno and United Health Centers of the San Joaquin Valley, Inc.
Prior to founding The Rios Company, Angie served as marketing director for the Fresno Private Industry Council. During the 1984 Olympics, she served as a news advance consultant to the president of the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee and a press secretary for the Olympic Torch Relay.
Angie's leadership role extends beyond The Rios Company, serving on several boards and committees, including the Saint Agnes Medical Center Board of Trustees, State Center Community College Foundation Board, Naomi's House Governance Committee and the Women's Foundation of California.
She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science from California State University, Fresno.
Samuel Norman
Director of Operations
Samuel brings an extensive legal background and expertise in the areas of organizational development, public advocacy, government relations, issues management and campaign strategies. Leveraging more than 20 years of experience, Samuel helps clients address their organizational needs and objectives. Under his guidance, The Rios Company offers strategic planning and resource/fund development services to nonprofit organizations.
Formerly, Samuel practiced business law with a focus on minority and woman-owned businesses and minority community economic development. Additionally, he served as legal counsel for the Fresno Workforce Development Board and the Oakland Private Industry Council.
He is currently a director on the Workforce Investment Board and on the Small Business Development Center Advisory Board with the University of California, Merced.
Samuel received a Doctorate of Juris Prudence degree from Golden Gate University, San Francisco and a Bachelor of Science degree from Howard University.
Christina Alejo
Account Associate
Christina Alejo provides a multitude of services, including, but not limited to, project management, strategic planning, needs assessment, grant writing and community outreach.
Christina’s background includes program development and administration, outreach and engagement, education and training, as well as evaluation and research. She has dedicated her professional career to exploring mental health service needs, barriers to care and idiomatic expressions of distress of Latinos. Her work has related to applying this information to help increase access to mental health services for this underserved group by aiding in the development of culturally and linguistically appropriate clinical instruments, evidence based best practices and model programs.
She also serves as the associate director of the Mental Health Association of the Central Valley and brings over 17 years of experience in the field of mental health. Christina previously served as the Project Coordinator for the Mexican American Prevalence and Services Survey, the largest epidemiological mental health study conducted with Mexican-origin adults in the U.S. Concurrently, Christina served as the Project Coordinator for the Fresno County Collaboration for Health and Well-being.
Christina holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychology and Chicano/Latin American studies from California State University, Fresno.
Dr. Andrew Alvarado
Consultant
Andrew is Professor Emeritus from California State University, Fresno where he conducted numerous research studies on agricultural labor, health of rural populations as well as evaluation of both human service and education programs. He is currently an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine in the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. In this position, he is presently working on the Central Valley Nursing Diversity Initiative funded by The California Endowment with Dr. Kevin Grumbach at UCSF.
Dr. Alvarado serves as a consultant to The Rios Company in providing oversight and supervision on research projects. He has partnered with The Rios Company as a co-principal investigator for the Farm Worker Motor Vehicle Safety Demonstration Project at California State University, Fresno. His principal research role in this project, funded by the California Department of Food and Agriculture, is the evaluation of intervention outcomes of activities designed to reduce vehicular collisions among farm workers. The project concept follows the health promotion, health education model for increasing awareness, attitudes and driving behaviors among the targeted population.
Another project affiliation is working as an evaluator on the Multicultural Community Alliance Covering Kids Foundation Access Initiative, where his role is to evaluate the efforts of community based organizations that are funded to conduct outreach activities that will assist rural underserved residents to access health care. This project is funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
